In the Northern Hemisphere, winter doesn’t officially start until December 21st or 22nd. This is the winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year. Regardless, winter weather is already here and we hope you’re prepared with your thick winter coat and moisturizing skincare products. In honor of our new No Room For Beauty Standards tote, we’re here to offer up some tips on what to keep in yours— so you’re ready for even the winteriest conditions.
Your fave moisturizing products
Dry winter winds dehydrate your skin. The result? Cracked lips, and flaky and tight skin all over the body. So, don’t leave the house without chapstick and face oil. As always, we recommend opting for natural products free from icky ingredients that can dry out your skin, like synthetic fragrances and alcohol. Pro-tip: carry our Stay Gold Facial Elixir with you to restore stripped winter skin. It’s packed with nutrient-rich oils, like jojoba and frankincense, and won't leave behind that unpleasant residue you find with thicker products. Just rub a few drops into your face and hands and you’ll smell and feel renewed.
Sunscreen
On the topic of skincare products, don’t be fooled by the gray winter skies— the sun’s damaging UV rays are still reaching your skin. To prevent skin damage, apply sunscreen in the morning and carry it in your tote so you can reapply it every couple of hours. This is especially important if you've been sweating a lot or will be spending the day outdoors.
A couple extra masks
Do you feel like you have sniffles all winter long? Well, you’re not alone and you’re not weird either. Not to get graphic, but cold air irritates nasal passages causing the glands to produce mucus and keep the lining moist. In other words: winter sniffles. This might make you want to change your protective mask more often, so carry a few in your tote. Oh, and some tissues are a good idea, too.
A scarf
Winter weather can be unpredictable. One moment it’s unbearably cold and the next it’s sunny and... dare we say balmy? It happens, even in the dead of winter. But, there’s nothing worse than not being dressed for the weather. So, even if it’s a mild day, we recommend packing a scarf. Research shows that respiratory viruses thrive in colder environments, so keeping your neck and nose warm with a thick scarf could help keep you healthy this winter.
