Getting to The Root

turmeric is trending, and we aren’t surprised

From turmeric lattes to supplements to skincare, our favorite ingredient is cropping up everywhere. Even Google searches for the root have grown exponentially in recent years.

It’s no secret that we’re obsessed, and we’re thrilled to see more people jumping on the golden bandwagon. But what’s with all the hype and is it the super-ingredient it’s made out to be?

Let’s dig in.

Why is it trending?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people started researching immunity-boosting products that could support their bodies in fighting off the virus. In the US, demand for dietary supplements increased by over 35% in the last week of March 2020. And, in the first half of 2020, India’s export of immunity-boosting spices, like turmeric, increased by 19%.

Clearly, this difficult time has lead to a positive change: more and more people are prioritizing health and wellness, and plant-based natural products. Skincare routine, exercise, diet… people are rethinking everything and seeking to treat their bodies as well as possible– so they’ll be prepared for whatever comes their way.

What makes turmeric an immune booster?

The spice contains a bioactive component called curcumin that can act as an immunomodulatory agent: it helps activate T cells, b cells, macrophages, and other essential parts of the body’s immune response.

What else can turmeric do?

Curcumin is more than an immune booster. It also has antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. No wonder it’s showing up in cosmetics, the food industry, and beyond

As an anti-inflammatory, curcumin inhibits inflammatory cytokines (small proteins involved in cell signaling). Research suggests a link between inflammation and obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. So, curcumin supplements might lower your risk of health troubles and manage them if they arise.

As an antioxidant, curcumin protects the body from free radicals– unstable molecules that damage fatty tissue, DNA, and proteins in the body. This damage can contribute to the diseases mentioned and even lead to premature aging.

The only turmeric-based skincare brand

With its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits, turmeric is ideal for skincare products. It protects skin proteins from damage, keeping the skin firm and smooth. At the same time, it prevents redness and breakouts that make the skin uncomfortable.

It was through Ayurveda, an ancient South Asian healing system, that we first learned about turmeric as a medicinal ingredient. The magic root has been used for centuries as a natural skin care solution. Once we discovered its many benefits, we were inspired to build a skincare collection on it.

Given that it’s a tried and true ingredient, it might surprise you to hear that we’re the only turmeric-based skincare brand out there. You could say we’re still ahead of the trend 🌞

We’re here with products that are good for your skin and what’s within.
